Academic Pathway
#01

Student

Student members may be in full/part-time education or, subject to holding the minimum academic qualifications required by IFPO, in employment.

CRITERIA & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Be following a course of study in a fire-related field or specialism, or a related subject, on a course recognised by IFPO and leading to a qualification acceptable to IFPO; or
  • Have completed a course approved by IFPO.
Important: A Student member having gained a qualification to a higher grade of membership may NOT remain as a Student member.
Industry & Partners

Affiliate

Affiliate members may be individuals, companies, groups or local authorities who have an interest in or involvement with the fire safety industry.

CRITERIA & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Open to commercial fire safety companies, manufacturers, local authority departments, and allied safety organizations.
  • Enables corporate engagement, access to IFPO publications, and representation across relevant industry forums.
Degree Pathway

Graduate

Designed for university graduates holding scientific or engineering credentials pursuing their career in fire protection.

CRITERIA & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Hold a science or engineering degree acceptable to IFPO, or an equivalent, individually assessed qualification; and
  • Be pursuing a career or interest in the fire safety industry.
Important: A Graduate member having gained a qualification to a higher grade of membership may NOT remain as a Graduate member.

Technician

Recognises practical technical competence and active career engagement within specialized fire prevention sectors.

CRITERIA & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Be pursuing a career in the fire safety industry;
  • Have relevant experience within the scope of their chosen field or specialism acceptable to IFPO;
  • Have an academic qualification recognised by IFPO and acceptable to IFPO; and
  • Be continually developing their professional expertise through CPD.

Intermediate corporate standing for experienced fire safety practitioners, advisors, and risk specialists.

CRITERIA & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Actively engaged in fire prevention, risk assessment, or fire safety management;
  • Possess appropriate recognised professional qualifications and verified industry experience;
  • Demonstrate verifiable commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

The benchmark corporate grade for senior fire safety professionals, consultants, and leaders in fire prevention.

CRITERIA & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Hold recognized senior qualifications in fire safety engineering or fire prevention disciplines;
  • Possess substantial verifiable professional experience in positions of responsibility;
  • Satisfy the IFPO Council of full competence and strict adherence to the Institute's Code of Conduct.

Fellow

The highest grade of the Institute, conferred upon individuals of exceptional eminence and achievement in fire prevention.

CRITERIA & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Conferred by the Council upon members who have demonstrated exceptional service and distinguished achievement in the fire safety profession.
  • Recognises outstanding lifelong contributions to the science, practice, or governance of fire prevention.
