Fire Risk Assessment Register – Update

At the EC meeting held on 23rd July, the IFPO National Executive Council ratified the regular review of the institute’s Fire Risk Assessment Register. Our policy, processes and documents were last updated and approved in August 2016 adding tools to assist both our volunteer panellists and applicants. During this update, the FRAR working group recommended the need to include direct observation of applicants who successfully completed stage-2 in the process.

To apply applicants must be paying members of the IFPO, have at least 5-years’ experience undertaking fire risk assessments preferable with a further solid background in the fire sector. Have appropriate professional indemnity and Public Liability insurance. Demonstrate operating at level 3 or 4, able to reveal solid understanding and working in either specific or a range of premises types, show ongoing learning via certificates and CPD Record. Have the fire safety knowledge, prevention observation skills and character, resulting in full competence to undertake fire risk assessments to be registered with the IFPO as either an In-House Assessor, Commercial Low-Risk Assessor (No sleeping risk or complex premises) or a Full Commercial Assessor as considered fit by the panel. Success will be determined by our experienced volunteer panellists, each themselves experienced and verified fire risk assessors, with proven ability and strength of character to critique in an honest and rational way
